We had a little scare this weekend...
On the way to dinner Friday night, I started feeling a bit under the weather. My chest hurt a bit and then I felt very dizzy and weak. I went to get out of the car and after standing up for a few seconds, I fainted. Thank goodness Brady was there to catch me. We went straight home and eventually decided to go to urgent care. Wessley stayed home and watched Ella (so glad he was around!). We went in, they hooked me up to an EKG, took some blood and gave me a chest x-ray. Everything came back fine and we were told to go home and wait for the results of the blood test, but that they didn't expect anything abnormal.
A few hours later, we got a call from the doctor and I was told to go to the ER immediately because the blood test came up positive for the "possibility" of a blood clot. And considering my symptoms, I needed to be checked right away for a pulmonary embolism. So Brady and I drove to Bremerton and got to hang out in hospital for a few hours while I was poked and prodded. I got more blood and urine tests, as well as a CT scan of my chest (complete with the iodine/dye via IV that was probably the most uncomfortable part of the night). Everything came back normal. So I was sent home a little after midnight. The diagnosis—I probably had a small clot that resolved itself. Where it came from or how it got there is anybody's guess. I was also told that I'm quite dehydrated—no surprise to me. I am notoriously bad about drinking water... and exercising very hard. Not a good combination.
Brady was able to stay home with me (he starts back to work this afternoon) and I spent most of yesterday in bed. I am feeling a bit better—still kind of tired, but not so dizzy and definitely not fainting. I've decided to start taking a baby asprin every day for a while... and to carry some in my purse, just in case.
All in all, it was a very sudden, frightening experience. Lessons learned: drink more water, stress less, and relax more. I'm too young for all of this. Oh, and next year—I'm going on vacation for Christmas.
