A weekend of surprises...

DC never ceases to amaze me. After living here for nearly seven years (can you believe it?), we're still finding new and wonderful places to visit...

On Saturday morning, we went for a little hike in Rock Creek Park with two other couples we had just met. It was a beautiful spring morning—perfect for a walk. Afterwards, we enjoyed brunch at Domku, a little restaurant tucked away in a neighborhood I never visit (Petworth). But it was sooooo worth it. We will be going again. If you live in the area, I highly recommend it—Scandinavian fare, low-key atmosphere and very affordable.

That afternoon, we had the same two couples and their kids (one five months, the other one year) over for mimosas (my first time—surprisingly good) before going downstairs to the Culture Shop for an event highlighting Brazilian art + culture. The Capoeira demonstration was amazing—it looked like a cross between break dancing and martial arts. I wish I could do that!

Sunday, we ventured down to the Franciscan Monastery—after hearing about it from a neighbor. How is it that we never went there before? It was gorgeous! Ella loved roaming around the gardens, examining caterpillars, and running through the archways. We will definitely be going again, but perhaps without Ella so we can take in the full tour.

And finally, last night... Josh came over and we enjoyed some strawberry shortcake with homemade whipped cream + cake, and strawberries from the farmer's market. That is what spring is all about. :-)
