Chatty

I have been having a terrible time keeping everyone posted. I keep thinking things will slow down—that the craziness is only temporary. I guess I just need to accept that it isn't a phase. My life is now insane and I have to do twelve things at a time just to keep up. Brady has been gone all week for work and is coming back tomorrow (a day early)! I went into the office Tuesday-Friday and am taking on a little extra work for some undetermined duration (a week? a month?)... and hopefully when it's over, I can have a little time to myself to do some of the things I did before Ella came along—like paint, make some books, take some non-baby photos. We'll see... but back to the main character of our story.

This morning, Ella added another word to her vocabulary: sunglasses, though she says it "sunglass." We were playing with my sunglasses and then got out hers to try on... within a few moments, she was in on the conversation too. It. Was. So. Cute. She continues to amaze me with her non-stop talking, animated gestures, and general silliness. What a wonderful little girl!

p.s. If you're in the DC-area, I highly recommend that you go to Crafty Bastards on Sunday. Hopefully we'll see you there!

Keeping Busy

Because Ella says so...

Big bib = Big fun.

Brushing one's teeth only looks fun.

Welcome Logan!!!!

Congratulations to Morgan and Kara! Logan was born early Monday morning in Missoula. Boy, is he a cutie. Ella can't wait to meet her new cousin! I thought that last year was the year of the baby, but I think it may be rivaled by this year's crop. We're anxiously awaiting the arrival of so many new playmates in the coming months. Best of luck to everyone! I'm thinking about you... but am I ever glad I'm not pregnant :-)

It's been too long...

since my last post. I know. Things have been crazy. Really crazy. On Monday, the day after Ella's party, we had a little scare... and spent nearly six hours in the emergency room. Ella was with Rennell and luckily I was working from home. We had crossed paths in the hallway and not five minutes later, I got a call from Rennell. Apparently, Ella started convulsing, shrieking (much different from screaming), was sweaty, pale and her lips turned blue. Eventually, she stopped responding and her eyes started to close. So, Rennell tried to rouse her and only a few minutes later... she was back to herself again. Fortunately (and unfortunately), I didn't have to witness my baby going through this. I got there to see her still pale and a little out of it. We made the decision to drive the 1/2 mile to Walter Reed and wait it out in the ER. I was a bit freaked out and kept hugging Ella. After LOTS of tests (CT Scan, blood, urine, etc.), they found absolutely NOTHING wrong with her. She had no fever, no sign of illness. So... it was either a seizure or perhaps something she ate. Nobody knows. It's a mystery. But I can tell you that we'll be watching her very closely from now on.

The day after this exhausting episode, Ella had to go in for her 12-month appointment... also at Walter Reed. Compared to the ER, the pediatrics clinic looked like paradise. All of the news reports of the the hospital being in dire need of repair are absolutely true. The peds clinic seems to be an exception. Everything went very well. Ella is weighing in at 20.8 lbs and is nearly 29 inches long... She talked and talked to the Dr. and nurses and impressed them with her conversation skills :-) They put in a consult for her to get an echocardiogram on her heart, as she still has a murmer. But we were assured that it is nothing to worry about. It doesn't seem to be slowing her down.

Ella is still not walking on her own, but enjoys using her walker up and down the hall several times a day. She also tries to use anything she can find to help her walk... which is how she had a little accident on Friday. While using a small recycle bin to push her way across the floor, Ella fell down and got a little scrape next to her eye. It's only a tiny scab now, but she certainly looked abused for the first few days. I'm sure this is only one of many accidents to come :-(

Brady is home for the next few days, but will be leaving again (he got home yesterday) for a week and a half. So... Ella and I are missing him greatly and can't wait until he's back for more than a few days at a time.

More photos coming soon...

Party Girl

We just finished up Ella's 1st birthday party and it was great success! I made her a carrot cake and she LOVED it! Lots of people came over to celebrate... now the little munchkin is sleeping soundly upstairs. :-)

She's got the moves...

and she's not afraid to use them :-)

The Big 0-1

Happy Birthday, Ella!
That's right, today is my little girl's first birthday! Ella had a good time opening some of her presents first thing this morning... here are a few photos. We're having a party for her on Sunday, so I'm sure we'll have dozens of images to share soon! In the meantime, there's a new set on flickr >

Non-Labor Day Weekend

It has been an exciting weekend so far... and there's another day left! Yay! On Friday, we met Brady down at work and went to the country club (long story) and swam while Brady golfed. Ella got into the big pool for the first time and LOVED it!!!!! She kicked a lot and flirted with the older kids.

Afterwards, we had a yummy dinner (I made stuffed peppers) and a fattening chocolate/peanut butter concoction I made up for dessert. Wessley (aka Uncle Trouble) showed up on Saturday afternoon... after a disappointing game (read: Brady won) of Scrabble, we headed to Jackie's for an early dinner. We left Ella and Wessley at home and Brady and I went to a play to celebrate our 7th anniversary (!!!)... we saw Private Lives in the tiniest theatre ever. It was great!

Ella slept in until after 7 this morning (thank you!) and then we all went for a run. The weather was/is fantastic and not at all humid. Finally! After a day of shopping (the farmer's market and downtown), everyone is now sleeping... except for me, of course. I've got to take every opportunity to get a few things done...

I suppose I should also take the time to update everyone one what Ella is up to these days. She's still not walking on her own, but cruises around every piece of furniture and climbs the stairs at least a dozen times a day (usually more). She still waves at everyone and likes to nod (and at appropriate times... perhaps she really knows more than we give her credit for) and clap her hands and say "yay!" (mostly for herself). Ella also says Mama and Dada regularly (mostly Dada) and has a few other words, too... like "boom!"—which came from one of her favorite books. She likes to pretend to fall over and say "BOOM!"... so very cute :-) She can also quack like a duck, something I taught her to say while taking a bath (with her rubber duckie). But most of the time, Ella just babbles in her own language, which may be English... she's just not using words we understand, at least not yet :-)

Oh, and Ella now has five (5!) teeth... and counting!

Yay!

Here's the invite I made for Ella's 1st birthday! Yay!!!!!
